It was written by a woman, which I find intriguing, and patrifia a relationship between a college track coach and one of his students separated in age by a considerable gap. I’m not competitive and I’m slow, but I am fucking consistent and I understand endorphins.

A moment I really liked, and which took me back to the first book, was Harlan’s emotional speech at the race in the final chapters. At parts, I became overwhelmingly nauseated with the feeling of self-importance Harlan Brown contains that was not at all evident in the first novel.

I loved this beautiful and heartbreaking love story when I read it in my 20’s. This is a very touching book, though not as traumatic as The Front Runner for sure.

As Harlan progresses from d to “liberal”, nothing is mentioned about social programs or the other crazy stuff that, in today’s society, makes one a liberal. Those who read this 40 years ago got the simple message that love between two men is simply that.

I was simply gripped by this book. Lascio 3 s Allora. It’s good suspense, of course, but what stands out for me is the way it convey’s the emotional feel of characters in a certain situation in at certain time when adversity forced growth. Now the boy is kept at bay because his story has to wait until the third book and it is yet another relationship that Harlan feels and is literally disconnected from.
